An impressive round trip from Bödmen via the Geißhorn and the Kemptner Köpfle back to Bödmen with breathtaking views over the surrounding mountains. If lucky you can watch some ibexes up close.
Description
The tour starts in Gemstelboden directly at the Breitach at about 1200 m altitude. Along the beautiful Gemstelbach we walk steadily but not very steeply uphill. From the Hintere Gemstelhütte on the gradient increases. We follow the sharp bends through mountain pines and pass a spectacular gorge at the bottom of which the Gemstelbach is rushing. The few somewhat more critical points are secured with a rope. Afterwards, one enters a kind of plateau and the cultivated Obere Gemstelalpe at 1694 m. Not quite as steep as before and overlooking the Geißhorn we now climb the saddle in order to then start the summit attempt. The ascent to the summit requires some surefootedness: On the northern ridge, a gravel trail leads to the goal. After approximately 3.5 hrs from the start we reach the first summit of the day, the Geißhorn at 2366 m and are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains Liechelkopf, Angererkopf, Elfer and Zwölfer, the Lechquellengebirge and the Allgäu main ridge. Do not forget to keep an eye out for ibex – you are in the middle of their territory. After refreshments, we return to the saddle and without significant ups and downs we continue to the Mindelheimer Hütte which is worthwhile to stop by. From here, it is only a short climb to the second summit of the day: The Kemptner Köpfle (2191 m), whose last meters must be climbed in order to enjoy the wonderful view from the summit. From here we start the actual descent via the Kemptner Scharte (saddle). In a serpentines a narrow gravel path winds down into Wildental. Surefootedness required! From the cultivated Fluchtalpe a broad gravel path leads through the Wildental, from where you can either take a bus or walk back to Bödmen.
